Released on 1st March 1973, this will be an edition of 73 prints for obvious reasons. I remember as if yesterday the eerie sounds drifting through the Art School hallways, then laying eyes on the wonderful gatefold sleeve for the first time. Hipgnosis were the London design company responsible for this and many other classic album sleeves. I visited their studios and met Stig Thorgerson briefly as he scurried round the ramshakle premises at 6 Denmark Street in Soho. It wasn't the swish glass fronted Habitat environment I'd expected but more Albert Steptoe's backyard, only difference was artwork for ELO, Argent, Roy Harper, Wishbone Ash, Peter Gabriel etc scattered haphazardly from floor to ceiling.
Anyway, decades later I have put into print my tribute to this epoch-defining album. Each face has a subtly inscribed lyric from "Dark Side" and I've imagined them on the moon, half lit in silvery blue. Buzz Aldrin really should be in the background, punching any conspiracy theorist's lights out.
