"God" is a screaming yell from Lennon decrying all organised religion. He detested the worship of false idols and lists quite a few in this thought provoking howl (Beatles included).
In this painting you can see snatches of the lyric, but most have been lost under scraping the paint with sandpaper. I go for the overall feel of the end result rather than keeping everything pristine and intact.
A fascinating footnote to the song's recording at Abbey Road in 1970 is that while John was laying down his bitter denunciation of religion, George was next door recording "My Sweet Lord." One praising the Lord, the other discrediting any such entity. Both have left us prematurely, both will know the truth.
