Another rocker who started out handsome (in conventional terms) and wound up really handsome (in artistic & maturely observed terms). It's been a bad year for losing top folk, and Iggy recognises Bowie's influence on his own career and indeed his own survival. After thrusting himself manically onto the world's stage in 1968, Iggy had issues with drugs, managers, record labels etc to resolve before settling in Berlin with Bowie for 3 years in the mid 70s. Iggy says "Only he was the one who had enough truly in common with me, and who actually really liked what I did and could get on board with it, and who also had decent enough intentions to help me out. He did a good thing.” He added, “He resurrected me.”

In this piece I've tried to show the dark intensity that has so many times nearly taken Iggy. The dark materials and rough sandpapering, the eerie chiaroscuro (light & shade as seen in work by Caravaggio) of the image.

All this, plus the anxiety of his hands gripping his brains. He has been a genuine LUST FOR LIFE during his 68 years. Long may his force carve up the landscape.

This is a one-off Original piece on Saunders Waterford 300gsm HP paper, using mixed media including Watercolour Paint, Acrylic Paint, Inktense Pencils and occasionally Unison Colour Soft Pastels.
