In this marvellous song I feel Prince is expressing a deeply held belief about how relationships break down via lack of sensitivity for the other. He is acknowledging how he inherited his parents' worst qualities and uses the dove, our symbol of peace, to remind us they never scream at each other. If they did they would cry.
Anyway, the painting is a joyful expression of this realisation as the symbols of peace take to the skies hoping to remind us of our responsibilities in relationships.
