Drifting down from Heaven is Aaron Neville's voice. He's singing the finest cover of a Dylan lyric that I have ever heard. Not only that, it's one of the master's most evocative verses.
Towards the end of "Chronicles" Dylan recalls meeting up with him : "The Neville Brothers record 'Yellow Moon' was nearing completion. It surprised me to hear 'With God on Our Side' sung by Aaron, he's one of the world's great singers. A figure of rugged power but with the voice of an angel. There's so much spirituality in his singing that he could redeem a lost soul."
It moved me to dig out "Yellow Moon" and put this astonishing verse on to Bob's profile. Aaron's rendering could indeed "bring sanity back into our world of madness."
